PRESS RELEASE for
BOMBPOP: ANITA HILL b/w BOB STINSON/IT'S OKAY
released December 1994 on SNAP! Records #190494CS001
Reviews that we like (a completely biased and subjective selection):
Very catchy power pop with hooks galore. Three boppin' cuts in all. Think
Replacements, Goo Goo Dolls, Ramones. Now get this! - THIMBLERIGGER
The songs all lean in the direction of beautiful pop punk, lightly touched
with soul. Not a bomb but still a grenade. -STAY WILD (Germany)
On the basis of the alternate vocalists, this disc could almost pass
for Grant Hart/The Last. Lovely guitar punk/pop which, in contrast with
90 percent of the music in this category, doesn't grate on your nerves.
(By the way, Anita Hill is that lady to whose behind Supreme Court Justice
Clarence Thomas' hands are supposed to have been so attracted, I believe.)
-The OX (Germany).
"Anita Hill" just steals this pop dog-and-pony show with
a great beat and catchy chorus. It's as American as red, white and blue.
- SPANK (not Swank!)
The real treat, for Replacements fans at least, is "Bob Stinson",
complete with a tribute solo and wacky lyrics: "I used to play guitar,
now I just stand here and wipe the bar." Here's hoping Bob laughs
if he hears it.
-MAGNET
The band's got indie pop written all over their garage door. The occasional
loudness might disturb some neighbours, but they have not called the police
so far. If it ever gets louder, they might prevent the worst by putting
on their nicest smile that would make even old hags melt.
-Hans-Jurgen Klitsch
Thank you for sending me the tape. Please pass on my thanks to all who worked
on this project.
-Anita F. Hill, Professor of Law (no lie!)
I wonder what they're up to now...
-YOU COULD DO WORSE
